This is Sugar. I found her while walking around the greenbelt trying to find a photo for today. When I ran across her, she was running willy-nilly through the underbrush, obviously enjoying her freedom. She didn’t react when I called or whistled, so I followed her for a bit and managed to snag her by her chain collar. There was no humans in sight, so I took the strap off my camera bag and used it as a make-shift leash so the dog wouldn’t bound away.
No one picked up when I called the number on her tag, so I left a message on the voicemail. We headed back the apartment, where my two dogs were interested and slightly upset about the sudden appearance of a new dog.
An hour or so passed before I got the phone call I had been expecting. A lady had let Sugar off the leash while hiking and Sugar took off, ignoring all instructions from her owner. A few minutes later, I met up with the visibly embarrassed owner at the front of my apartment complex and handed over her dog.
Good deed for the day done. I saved the noble beast from nearby cars on the highway, lurking rattlesnakes and the pound. Aliah and Sophie are still a bit put off, though.
